The Most Important Matchups and Best Bets for Sunday’s NBA Slate
There’s plenty of action lined up in the NBA with eight games on the Sunday card. Yesterday, the dogs were barking loud and clear with five wins against the spread and three outright winners. Dogs are now 47-36 (56.6%) against the spread, and away dogs have been even more profitable at 29-19 (60.4%). Perhaps the night’s biggest surprise was the New York Knicks, who won outright as 9.5-point underdogs against the Pacers. The Cavaliers (+5.5) also got the win and covered against a weary Hawks team playing their third game in four nights while the Thunder (+4.5) handed the Magic their second consecutive loss following a 4-0 start to the season. So what’s in store for today? Let’s highlight the key matchups and take a look at some picks and predictions.
The Celtics will play the second half of their back-to-back with Detroit after losing Friday’s contest, 96-93. Boston is just 3-3 to start their campaign, and they still don’t have an anticipated return date for Kemba Walker, who continues to rehab after receiving a stem cell injection in his left knee. Detroit will certainly look to build on their momentum after picking up their first win of the season.
The Nets are just 1-3 since Spencer Dinwiddie went down with an ACL injury. Tonight, they’ll host the Washington Wizards, who added Russell Westbrook to their squad in the offseason. Westbrook will face off against his former teammate, Kevin Durant, as the Wizards look to pick up their second win of the season. Washington opened as an 8.5-point underdog, and this line has been bet down to 7.5 over at FanDuel.
Two of the top teams in the Western Conference lock horns in Phoenix as the Suns host the Los Angeles Clippers. Phoenix is off to a 5-1 start while the Clippers are 4-2 on the season. Bettors aren’t showing the Suns much respect as the Clippers opened as a 1.5-point favorite, but that number has been bet up to 3.5 across the board. This seems like the right time to fade the Suns, who have won and covered their last four games. Keep in mind that Los Angeles has covered 12 of their last 16 meetings against the Suns.
Notable Line Moves
