Toronto Raptors vs. Indiana Pacers News and Notes
The surging Raptors will look for their second straight road upset in Indiana on Monday night. Toronto took care of business on Sunday afternoon, downing the Pacers 107-102. The Dinos were powered by three starters scoring 20-plus led by OG Anunoby’s season-high 30 points. Anunoby had a full line adding five steals and eight boards. Toronto was able to pull off the win without key starters Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry, getting their fifth victory in six games following a horrendous start. Siakam and Lowry’s status is up in the air for the rematch.
Toronto has now won nine of the last 11 games with Indiana and are now a season-best two games under .500. They will look to pull ever so close to the even mark with another strong showing on Monday.
Indiana is sinking in the opposite direction. The Pacers have now dropped three of four games and have been really struggling since the trade of Victor Oladipo. Unfortunately for Indiana, they’ve been forced to play shorthanded while Caris, LeVert, who came back in the deal, remains out with a mass on his kidney. LeVert is out indefinitely, so the Pacers will have to work it out on their own in the short-term.
Domantas Sabonis has been working all season for his squad. The son of Arvydas has remarkably had a double-double in every game this season. Sabonis has been a beast on the boards with seven rounds of 13-plus rebounds, including a season-high 22 a few weeks ago against the Suns. Sabonis. The Pacers forward leads the league in double-doubles and, with 16 straight on the year, is just three behind Mel Daniels’ franchise record set in 1968-69.
In addition to Sabonis’ team-leading and NBA fourth-best, 12.9 rebounds per game, Indiana has also been getting contributions from Myles Turner and Malcolm Brogdon from each end of the floor. Turner is on a tear under the basket leading the league with 4.2 blocks, almost two blocks per game better than any other player. Brogdon is doing work on the other end leading the team in points with 21.9 points, three-pointers with 2.8, and assists, dishing out 7.1 per game.
The Raptors have been dominated, facing the Pacers against the spread lately. Toronto has covered five straight in Indiana and six of their past seven overall meetings. In their past 12 meetings at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the under has been the play ten times. Toronto has covered in their past four overall, while the Pacers have failed to cover in their past four.
