NBA GPP Recap: Wednesday October 28th
NBA GPP Recap: Wednesday October 28th
Wooooo! NBA is back! Officially the second night of the season, it did not disappoint as there were plenty of large tournaments offered throughout the industry and a fourteen game slate kept us interested all night long. I've made some slight adjustments to the GPP recap format, and instead of giving you a straight "top-performers" table, I figured since basketball only requires five players that I could include a mega team, including the top players from last night.
Note: If a player is listed below, this does not mean he was the top scoring player at his position. Also, player positioning may change in the future as positional eligibility varies from FanDuel and DraftKings.
|PG||Ricky Rubio||2 Reb, 14 Ast, 1 Stl, 28 Pts||55.5||52.4|
|SG||C.J. McCollum||37Pts, 6Reb, 1Ast, 1Stl||51||47.7|
|SF||Danilo Gallinari||23Pts,8Reb,3Ast,3Blks, 1Stl||47||45.1|
|C||Nerlens Noel||14Pts, 12Reb,2Ast, 2Blk, 3Stl||42||38.4|
If you had a lot of these guys in your lineups, you probably had yourself a good night, unlike myself. Below is a list of people that I'm particularly envious of...
$75K Baller, $1,065 Entry, $17,500 to First Place
Winner(s): Makisupa, paulyshorts, anomaly
Team: Michael Carter-Williams, Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Nikola Mirotic, Julius Randle, Terrence Jones, Clint Capela
$150K Monster, $300 Entry, $20,000 to First Place
Team: Michael Carter-Williams, Ricky Rubio, C.J. McCollum, Eric Gordon, Danilo Gallinari, Nicolas Batum, Kenneth Faried, Nerlens Noel, Greg Monroe
$350K Slam, $25 Entry, $40,000 to First Place
Team: Damian Lillard, Isiah Thomas, Jimmy Butler, C.J. McCollum, Danilo Gallinari, Nikola Mirotic, Jerami Grant, Nerlens Noel, Greg Monroe
$100K All-Star, $1,060 Entry, $20,000 to First Place
Team: Damian Lillard, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Clint Capela, Joffrey Lauvergne, C.J. McCollum, Danilo Gallinari, Ricky Rubio
$250K 3-Ball, $300 Entry, $50,000 to First Place
Team: Ricky Rubio, Eric Gordon, Danilo Gallinari, Julius Randle, DeMarcus Cousins, C.J. McCollum, Paul George, Marcus Morris
$500K Shootaround, $20 Entry, $100,000 to First Place
Team: Ricky Rubio, Jimmy Butler, Danilo Gallinari, Greg Monroe, DeMarcus Cousins, C.J. McCollum, Julius Randle, Joffrey Lauvergne
Minimum Priced Paradise
If you are an avid proponent of the stars and scrubs lineup construction strategy, you love the first week of the season. Sites are still adjusting to all of the new playing situations around the league, and as a result, there are a bevy of minimum priced or near minimum priced starting options.
Top lineups from around the industry last night took advantage using various players at rock bottom or others nearly there. Although there were tons of capable minimum priced players, the two I found consistently near the tops of the leaderboards are listed below.
DK Points & Salary
FD Points & Salary
|Clint Capela||F/C||27.25 / $3,000||26.4 / $4,400|
|Joffrey Lauvergne||F/C||23.25 /$3,000||21.9 / $3,500|
Have you ever been an unsuspected hero? The guy that no one expected to do anything, and then you jumped in and saved a young child from a fire? Perhaps even something less dramatic?
Both Rubio and Monroe made it into the top-performers lineup and both are found on nearly every single winning lineup from across the industry last night. But, not everyone expected it.
Take a look at the ownerships for these two in the Shootaround and Slam on DraftKings and FanDuel, respectively.
DK Shootaround %
FD Slam %
Each player eclipsed 50 points on both sites and ended up being highly valuable in tournaments. Better yet, you didn't even have to break the bank to get either one. In fact, if you combined these two with the players in the section above, you could have still rostered the likes of Damian Lillard, DeMarcus Cousins and James Harden feasibly. Oh, and you would have dominated.
Another important combination used in conjunction with Greg Monroe and Ricky Rubio last night was the pairing of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum from the Portland Trailblazers. The Blazers got to play at home against the New Orleans on the second night of a back to back. Granted, both of these guys were a bit chalky, as their ownership levels neared 40% in the FanDuel Slam, and were both above 20% on DraftKings, but each was well worth it.
Another interesting trend that I was looking at while scrolling through these teams was how players were utilizing their utility spot (on DraftKings using the Shootaround).
Below I've included a tally of the positions, and this is something I intend to monitor as the weeks go on. Will it continue to be a trend at a certain position, or is it merely value based (expected points vs. salary)?
It's obvious that point guard was the most commonly used position in the utility spot, but I wonder if this will be a continuous trend, or just a weekly blip on the screen?
I'll monitor this going forward.
It's a completely new season, and this is the first GPP recap. If there is something you'd like me to track, or make note of each week, please let me know! You can reach out via the forums at DailyRoto or find me on Twitter (@LHitch09).
Congrats to all the winners!
