The Montreal Canadiens announced that they’d placed forward Brendan Gallagher on long-term injured reserve with a fractured thumb.
This decision essentially means that Gallagher’s regular season is over. He’ll finish with 14 goals and nine assists in 35 games. He could return in the playoffs should Montreal finish in the top four of the North Division.
The Canadiens are currently holding on to the fourth position as their 43 points place them eight ahead of the fifth-place Vancouver Canucks with two games in hand.
Gallagher had yet to miss a game all year until now. The forward actually suffered the injury after sustaining some friendly fire on an Alexander Romanov shot attempt against the Oilers.
