Head Coach Bruce Arians & GM Jason Licht Ink Contract Renewals With Bucs
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have revised head coach Bruce Arians contract to give him a pay raise as well as an extension on general manager Jason Licht’s contract that will “ensure he’ll be in Tampa Bay for multiple years.”
After returning all 22 starters from last year’s Super Bowl-winning roster, the Bucs will be looking to become back-to-back champions for the first time in the NFL since the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005. Returning each of their starters was the first step and a pay raise for Arians seemed well-deserved after helping keep the squad together on a tight salary cap.
In just his second season in Tampa, Arians notched an 11-5 record and quickly built strong chemistry with quarterback Tom Brady throughout the season. Although some uncertainty of making the playoffs arose after taking a 7-5 record into the bye, an eight-game winning streak en route to the franchise’s second-ever Super Bowl and Arians’s first of his coaching career washed away any doubt on his future with the organization.
Unlike Arians’s new contract, Licht’s was for more years rather than a pay raise. Prior to the arrival of Tom Brady to Tampa, the Buccaneers were just 34-62 during Licht’s time as general manager. His aggressive push to bring Brady to the organization as well as making strong draft picks such as Devin White, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin was enough for the Glazer family to offer an extension on his deal.
With all the pieces back in the mix, it doesn’t seem like the defending champs will be going anywhere. The Buccaneers are currently priced at +650 to win Super Bowl LVI, per the FanDuel Sportsbook.
