Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews Ruled out Tonight Against the Oilers

A day after the Maple Leafs announced that Joe Thornton would miss some time, Maple Leafs Kristen Shilton reports that Auston Matthews has also been ruled out with upper-body soreness for tonight’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Matthews was in enough pain that he couldn’t finish Thursday’s practice session due to an injury that likely occurred during Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to the Oilers. Thornton and Matthews have combined for seven points this season, with Mathews third in ice time at almost 23.5 minutes per game.
Zach Hyman will likely be bumped up to the first-line to fill the void.
The Oilers still look to be undervalued in the betting market as a +124 underdog over at FanDuel. A win tonight would give Edmonton their first winning streak of the season.
Edmonton is just 8-20 in their last 28 head-to-head meetings, but one thing that is in their favor is that the visiting team is on a 4-0 run in this series.
