The Dallas Stars official Twitter account confirmed Rick Bowness will not return to the Stars bench for the third period. Bowness was removed due to COVID-19 protocols. Assistant Coach John Stevens will assume head coaching duties for the remainder of the game. Additional details regarding the nature of Bowness’s absence are not yet available.
It’s the second night of a back-to-back against the Carolina Hurricanes, and the ice has been tilted against the Stars all game. The Canes are dominating possession posting a 63.8% Corsi rating at five-on-five with five minutes left in the third and are out-shooting the Stars 37-23. Despite the dominance, the Stars are only down 1-0 thanks to Jake Oettinger, who has stopped 36 of 37 shots.
The Stars are listed as +760 on the live line at FanDuel Sportsbook but are -230 to cover the +1.5 puckline.
Stay tuned after the game for an update on Bowness’s situation. Hopefully, his situation won’t have an impact on the rest of the Stars team.
