The NHL is doing what they can to contain the COVID-19 outbreak on the Vancouver Canucks, postponing their games until April 6. Adam Gaudette was the first to test positive on the Canucks; subsequent testing confirmed that another player and staff member also tested positive.
The Canucks game against the Calgary Flames was postponed on short notice yesterday due to the new positive tests. The league followed that up with confirmation today that Canucks games through April 6 have all been postponed. In all, four games will need to be rescheduled, one against the Edmonton Oilers, two against the Winnipeg Jets, and yesterday’s encounter with the Flames.
A little time away from the rink may benefit the Canucks, who have struggled recently. Vancouver has lost three straight and sits sixth in the NHL North division.
The post-season isn’t completely out of the picture for the Canucks, but it’s an improbable hill to climb. They will need to leapfrog the Flames and catch up to the Montreal Canadiens, who have a four-point cushion and five games in hand over the Nucks.
