Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills News and Notes
Josh Allen continued his elite-level play last week, dismantling a top-shelf Colts defense, but this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who follows Bills games. This Bills offense has a downright silly number of weapons: Stefon Diggs, John Brown, Dawson Knox, and Cole Beasley all have played at a remarkably high level to help their beloved quarterback succeed. The Bills “between the tackles” run game led by Devin Singletary and rookie Zack Moss have provided some supplementary support as well for Allen.
Since cramping up on national television Week 14, quarterback Lamar Jackson has played with his hair on fire: in the past six games, he’s tossed more than two touchdowns and ran for 80+ yards in all but one of them, and it appears the team has found its offense again. Marquise Brown has finally started to play to his draft pedigree and has been a reception machine for Jackson. Mark Andrews, Willie Snead, and Devin Duvernay round out a solid pass-catching corps that Jackson is spreading the ball around to, supplemented by JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards in the run game.
In Buffalo, linebackers Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds have been a steadying presence and played “lights out” last week against Indianapolis, and cornerback Tre’Davius White, as well as safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, have provided stability in the secondary, providing time for their front-seven to get home to opposing quarterback. Defensive linemen AJ Epenesa, Ed Oliver, and Mario Addison anchor a defensive line that is great against the pass but somewhat questionable against opposing rushing attacks.
The Ravens defense looks like a typical Baltimore defense: an absolutely loaded front-seven with stout linemen: Derek Wolfe, Calais Campbell, and Brandon Williams, speedy linebackers Matt Judon and rookie Patrick Queen, and three solid corners in Marlon Humphrey (in the slot), Jimmy Smith, and Marcus Peters. The Bills will still be able to move the ball, but these Ravens are going to hit (and hit hard) and make them fight for every inch.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills Prediction and Picks
The strongest play here is the over 50: the Ravens offense has been rolling over the last six weeks as they’ve rediscovered their 2019 form, having Jackson and Dobbins rush first and foremost and supplementing with spreading the ball around to all receivers (not just Andrews and Brown as Jackson did earlier in the season), and the Bills offense getting another week to get Beasley healthy only adds to the multitude of weapons that Allen has to throw to. A Buffalo run defense that will still be the worst unit on the field will likely have issues containing Jackson’s running, and similarly, a blitz-happy Ravens team combined with Allen’s mobility could mean for some big plays downfield for the Bills. Over is the move. On the side, while it’s under 3, Bills -2.5 is the play. It’s their year, everything is clicking at the right time, and the Ravens ultimately won’t be able to keep up with their firepower.
