According to John Sheeran, FanDuel’s director of trading, he’s happy with the current Super Bowl number that lists the Chiefs as a three-point favorite over the Buccaneers. It would likely require some injury or breaking news to move the point spread in either team’s direction at this point.
This shouldn’t be a surprise as sportsbooks are very reluctant to move off a key number in a very public game that attracts plenty of attention both domestically and around the world.
The line originally opened with the Chiefs as a 3.5-point favorite, but early sharp bettors quicks grabbed the points, prompting bookmakers to adjust the line down by a half-point.
Given that Tampa Bay fell to the Chiefs in Week 12 at home, that half-point could come in handy when it’s all said and done.
It will also be key to monitor the injury report for both teams leading up to this game.
Kansas City will be without their starting tackle, Eric Fisher, who tore his Achilles in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship. As for Tampa Bay, they’re dealing with injuries to both of their starting safeties, and they’ll hope the two-week break will give them sufficient time to return for the game.
