NFL Draft Odds: Ja'Marr Chase is Heavily Favored to Be First WR Drafted
A number of teams within the top 15 picks of the NFL Draft could be looking towards taking a top wide receiver prospect as a way to gain a spark on offense next season. However, it isn't always easy to determine which one will be able to translate to the next level smoothly.
The odds suggest that LSU Tiger standout Ja'Marr Chase will be the first wide receiver drafted this year with odds sitting at -220, according to NFL draft odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook. He is followed closely behind by a pair of Alabama players in DeVonta Smith (+150) and Jaylen Waddle (+1000).
NFL Draft First Wide Receiver Odds
Chase opted out of playing in the 2020 college football season, but shined in 2019 hauling in 84 receptions for 1,780 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns. He averaged 21.2 yards per receptions and showcased his ability to be a deep threat while also being able to break tackles in the open field.
Most mock drafts have the Miami Dolphins taking the first wide receiver at No. 6 overall, but don't count out the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 5 overall. They could draft a game-changing player like Chase to line up alongside young quarterback Joe Burrow. In fact, the two were already teammates at LSU.
This draft class is simply stacked with offensive talent as we could see numerous wide receivers drafted in the early part of the first round. Chase leads the way for now, but this is a storyline worth keeping an eye on all the way up until the names are being called at the end of April.
