Can the New York Islanders get off to another hot start to begin 2021? It’s best to look at it the way you look at the NFL in September. Sure, it’s two very different sports, but from a coaching aspect, the same thing. No pre-season games and teams bringing back the same structure, the same players will have an advantage over teams that are bringing in new guys, new coaches. Barry Trotz and the Islanders have pretty much the same exact same team that just went to the Eastern Conference finals in the bubble four months ago.
That will be extremely helpful for New York, for at least in the first month, month, and a half of this season as these guys already know what they’re doing. They know what Trotz expects of them, and they’re playing with the same lines they just played with four months ago. That’s going to have a little bit of an advantage for the Islanders out of the gate, including Thursday night’s season opener against the Rangers at the Garden.
