Mankind Has Broken The 70-Hot Dog Barrier: Joey Chestnut Wins Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Again
Joey Chestnut is on pace to break the hot dog eating record, as ... wait! Is that Chris Christie's entrance music I hear?
Sadly, the New Jersey Governor did not make a surprise appearance today at Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. So the stage was clear for Joey Chestnut, and he was in unprecedented form. Chestnut, from San Jose, CA, gobbled an incredible 70 wieners and buns in 10 minutes to win his ninth Nathan's title.
He gobbled 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes to break his own record of 69 and take back the title he lost last year to Matt Stonie. This far eclipses his old rival Takeru Kobayashi, who has three Nathan's titles. Kobayashi broke from the Major League Eating organization in 2009 in a contract dispute, and hasn't participated in the Nathan's contest since.
Joey Chestnut took in this in 10 minutes at Hot Dog Eating Contest: 19,600 calories, 1,260 g of fat, 54,600 mg of sodium & 700 g of protein

Matt Stonie was second with 55 hot dogs.
In the preceding women's competition, Miki Sudo of Las Vegas won her third straight Nathan's title with 38 1/2 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. Both she and Chestnut claimed $10,000 each.
