The Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) announced DailyRoto’s Drew Dinkmeyer as the winner of its inaugural “Humanitarian of the Year” award, in recognition of Dinkmeyer’s “Welly-Maker” efforts in 2017.
Dinkmeyer, who won $1 million in Week 15 of the 2014 NFL season in DraftKings’ “Millionaire Maker” contest, modeled his fundraising after the “milly maker” structure — asking fellow fantasy players to donate $20 (the entry fee for the popular DFS contest) to the Welly-Maker campaign, run by charity: water.
Dinkmeyer’s aim was to get clean drinking water to underprivileged communities by putting efforts toward the building of drilled wells or the implementation of spring protections and BioSand filters. The Welly-Maker’s initial goal was to raise $10,000 from donations, an amount he pledged to personally match. In his fundraising campaign, Dinkmeyer noted that $10,000 would be enough to support, “a fully funded water project that can provide sustainable solutions to clean water for entire villages.” The Welly-Maker ultimately raised over $40,000 and provided clean water solutions for over 1,300 people.
“What Drew accomplished through the Welly-Maker campaign was nothing short of amazing,” DailyRoto.com co-founder Mike Leone said. “While I know Drew is humble about the Welly-Maker success, he brought needed awareness and financial support to an important issue. Great community efforts are often the result of the ambition and willingness of a single person to step up and speak out, and I’m hoping others can learn from Drew’s example.”
In a timely twist, Dinkmeyer is going back to the well (badabum-chaa!), running a campaign for his 36th birthday to raise more money for charity: water. Details can be found here.
Please join us in congratulating Drew on his win as the FSTA’s inaugural “Humanitarian of the Year” (as well as saluting his fellow Humanitarian of the Year finalist, GM Genius), and recognizing his tremendous efforts toward helping to make the world a better place.
