Viktor Postol Doesn’t Believe He’s The Underdog Against Terence Crawford
Both Terence Crawford and Viktor Postol come into this Saturday night's fight with a perfect 28-0 record. Both fighters are at the top of their game in the 140 pound light welterweight division and the winner of the match will certainly be considered one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. Coming into the fight Crawford is a heavy favorite to defeat Postol, despite the identical records. Being the underdog doesn't surprise Postol though, nor does it bother him.
"He’s fought more in the United States. He’s fighting in his backyard as an American. If you consider and ask the people Europe, they would say that I am the favorite" Postol told SportsGrid earlier today.
The fight will be a clash for two fighters with entirely different styles. Crawford is elusive and has the ability to fight both in a left handed and right handed stance. How will the taller Postol be able to combat Crawford's fighting style?
"We prepared for the fight, we know what he’s bringing to the ring" Postol said. "I have my own advantages as well. We know what to expect. It’s not going to be an easy fight for either of us."
The fight takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on HBO PPV. It's the first time that either fighter is headlining a PPV, as well as the first time that either are fighting at the MGM Grand. Although Crawford has fought in Vegas several times before, this is a whole new experience for Postol, who admitted he is feeling "a little bit of extra pressure". Although he's trying to take this match as "just another fight", Postol knows this is bigger than that. He's trying his best to stay steady though.
"At the end of the day I just have to accept this as another fight. I have to be calm and I have to be in my regular mental state" said Postol. "It’s a big honor and it’s a big chance to be fighting in Las Vegas, the fight capital of the world".
The winner of the fight will be the undisputed WBO/WBC light welterweight champion and perhaps move on to even better things. One of those things may include a fight with the recently un-retired Manny Pacquiao. Rumors have been swirling that Crawford is the ideal next opponent for Pac-Man and winning this fight would certainly put him in line for that. Postol, however, is also interested in a fight with Pacquiao.
"Everyone wants to fight Manny Pacquiao. That’s a fight I want" said Postol. "I’ve been considered for that before, I’ve been discussed to be in that fight before. Obviously, I would want it."
Manny Pacquiao could be in Viktor Postol's future, although Postol is not ready to look that far ahead. He also warns that Crawford shouldn't either.
"Before Crawford looks to any other fights, he should remember he has a fight this Saturday."
Terence Crawford takes on Viktor Postol this Saturday, July 23, live on HBO pay-per-view beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST
