Between 1955 and 1986, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus won a combined 135 PGA Tour events, including 25 majors and countless second and third-place finishes. Their dominance during the 1960s brought the sport into the mainstream. Seriously, you cannot overstate the impact these two men had on the game of golf. Nicklaus-Palmer ranks up there with Ali-Frazier, Dimaggio-Williams and the Manning-Brady individual rivalries in terms of sheer magnitude.
Palmer passed away late Sunday from complications due to heart complications.
Nicklaus posted the following tribute to his longtime friend and rival on his Facebook page. Outside of Palmer's immediate family, "The Golden Bear" is perhaps the person most capable of eulogizing the man credited with popularizing golf in the United States.
