80-Year-Old Manager Mistakes Opposing Pitcher For German Automobile
This concession does not make the following quote from McKeon any less humorous.
Yesterday, the Marlins were playing the San Francisco Giants, a team that they already had bad blood with thanks to the Buster Posey incident, and things once again got heated. Marlins pitcher Burke Badenhop beaned Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, and Vogelsong was visibly upset, throwing his bat down in frustration.
The incident gave us this gem from McKeon:
"Guys get carried away," McKeon said. "Vogel … Volkswagen … whatever his name is — he's lucky he didn't have to face Drysdale or Gibson or one of those guys. You would get a shave and a haircut real quick."
McKeon wasn't talking about a real hair cut, but more of a figurative one given from an inside pitch from Don Drysdale or Bob Gibson, guys who McKeon is old enough to have been teammates with. Although if he was talking about a real haircut, it was likely something formal and Marine-like, not one of those newfangled, fancy-schmancy hairdos the kids are getting.
