Baseball Roundup: It’s MLB Draft Day! Twins, You’re On The Clock

  • Rick Chandler

Who will go No. 1? All we know for sure is that it won’t be Lonzo Ball, and that whoever it is, he’ll have big shoes to fill. The last time the Twins had the No. 1 pick (2001), they chose Joe Mauer.

This is a down year for talent overall, say the scouts. But if you’re lucky enough to have a pick early in the first round, you could get a future superstar. The guy I would pick is Hunter Greene, a righthanded pitcher from Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, who throws a 102-MPH fastball. He’s committed to UCLA, and could become the first prep righthander ever chosen No. 1 overall.

Then there’s Louisville pitcher Brendan McKay and Vanderbilt pitcher Kyle Wright.

Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft: First round (75 picks), tonight, 7 p.m. (ET), MLB Network. Complete draft order here.

Fun fact: Ellis also played basketball in high school (Gardena High, CA) and once had 21 assists in a game. He also developed a drug habit in high school, and later in his life claimed that he never pitched a game without the use of drugs. he mot infamous example:

Sportswriters who covered that game say they don’t believe it, however.
