Catch Of The Year? Kevin Kiermaier Robs Manny Machado Of A Home Run
Spoiler alert: If you are a baseball nerd, this beauty might make you cry tears of joy.
Tampa Bay Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier fulfilled his own prophecy on Monday night when he robbed the Orioles' Manny Machado of what would definitely have been a home run. Before the game, he told the media that he would love to try to steal a sure thing from their divisional rivals in Camden Yards.
So that's exactly what he did, and he did it in spectacular fashion. In fact, his form seems to get better and better every time you watch it.
That was a Michael-Jordan-Dunk-Contest type leap. It's being compared to the similarly spectacular home run robbery by the great Mike Trout, and if you watch them both it actually makes Kiermaier's even more impressive. Not only does he clearly have the athletic ability of one of the best players in the game, but I'd venture to say that Kiermaier's catch was even better. He got greater arm extension and his leap was timed perfectly so that he hit the wall at the maximum height of his jump rather than on the way back down.
Here's Chris Archer's reaction when he realized Kiermaier had just saved his ass.
Yeah, don't worry bud. Kevin's got you. The only downside of the catch is that according to the Rays, he sprained his ankle and is currently day-to-day.
Hopefully it's nothing too serious and baseball fans can see him back out there as soon as possible.
