Today In WTF First Pitches: An Acrobatic Cirque Du Soleil Performer In San Diego
June 28 / Glenn Davis / SportsGrid
We've been paying a lot more attention to ceremonial pitches lately than we ever imagined ourselves doing. First came John Wall's disaster, then Dirk Nowitzki's not-quite-such-a-disaster. And last night in San Diego, we got a much stranger, but oddly compelling first pitch attempt: a Cirque du Soleil performer doing flips on the mound.
Making it all the more surreal...the pitch was actually pretty good. The performer was well in front of the mound by the time he finished flipping, but even taking that advantage into account, his pitch far, far outperformed that of wither Wall or Nowitzki. This pitch was a borderline strike. Hopefully, he eventually comes back for another, this time throwing his pitch in the midst of his flip. If he pulls that one off, it's time to start thinking about making this guy the next out-of-nowhere Jim Morris story. Video below.
