Cubs owner Tom Ricketts says it’s Warp Factor Nine for the Cubs’ $575 million renovation of Wrigley Field, even though: there’s still stiff opposition from rooftop owners; it’s going to cost $75 million more than initially planned; and the city hasn’t yet approved it. But look, drawings! And when you’ve paid a firm to draw your stadium, that means it’s as good as built. Um, doesn’t it?
The Cubs today presented the renderings you see below, after Ricketts last week sent out a video announcing the renovation.
Most notably, the new pictures showed an outfield with five raised signs and two video boards. When the Cubs and the city came to an agreement about the project last year, there was only supposed to be one video board in left field and a Budweiser sign in right field.
The added signs will bring in more revenue and irritate the rooftop owners. That is, if the Cubs go through with these new plans, which are expected to be introduced to the city landmark committee next week.
