Curt Schilling Calls Stephen A. Smith A ‘Racist’, Declines Debate Offer … Then Endorses Trump

Two of my least favorite commentators in the world are Stephen A. Smith and Curt Schilling -- although Schilling isn't really a commentator anymore, as you know. I wouldn't cross the street to hear either of them speak if it was for free and they were serving snacks -- but there is an exception.
If it was a debate, then yes, I'd be all over that. (Still free snacks though, right?).
A debate between these two would be fascinating -- like watching a WNBA brawl, or seeing Hulk Hogan caught in a woodland snare. Seeing a pro cycling pileup where at least one rider ends up in a tree would be interesting as well. But not as potentially interesting as this debate. On Monday, Stephen A. challenged Schilling to just such a debate. But today, Schilling declined.
And in the process, he called Stephen A. a racist. New York Daily News:
“What are we going to debate about? I have no interest,” he said during an interview on WEEI’s “Dennis and Callahan Show.”
“I’m 49 years old. I have had cancer, I’ve had a heart attack, I’m losing my hair. I’m not going to waste my time with people I don’t respect.
“He’s a racist, I think he’s a bigot. There’s nothing to debate, number one. And number two, there’s not a chance in hell that I would do anything that would bring that station another viewer. Ever.”
Schilling was fired by ESPN in April for comments he made on social media about transgender issues -- the latest in a series of racially-based and otherwise controversial comments he's made over the past few years.
Stephen A. brought up the debate idea during an eight-minute rant on SiriusXM on Monday. Smith was responding to comments Schilling has been making about ESPN, and why he was fired.
“You (Schilling) want to sit here and have a debate about what really went on?” an indignant SAS asked. “Name the time and place and I’ll show up, with the permission of ESPN — of course. I guess listening to my boss makes me a bad guy. Well guess what? I’d rather be bad than stupid.”
But Schilling isn't having it. After calling SAS a racist and a bigot, he them smoothly transitioned to a post on his blog, where he officially endorsed Donald Trump. Excerpts:
"Let me also comment on you frauds in the liberal media.
"Mr Trump doesn’t want to ‘ban all muslims’ from entering the nation. Mr Trump doesn’t want to ban mexican immigrants from coming here.
"No, Mr Trump wants to halt, dismantle and rebuild a horrifically corrupt, broken and useless immigration system. This current administration has made no bones about ‘disarming’ both our border patrol and our first responders in a rush to make sure everyone, even criminals, don’t have their rights infringed on.
... "But your liberal agenda has you lying your asses off to a group of people too lazy to do the work on their own, to listen and decide on their own."
Now that Schilling isn't restrained by ESPN, this could get really crazy. As Lt. Corman said in Apocalypse Now:"Every man has got a breaking point. You and I have one. Walter Kurtz has reached his, and very obviously, he has gone insane."
