Watch David Ortiz Celebrate A Home Run With Troops In The Stands

  • Glenn Davis

The Boston Red Sox continued their climb back up from a 2-10 start with a 9-5 win over the Angels yesterday. The win moves the Red Sox to 13-15 on the season, one step closer to breaking even.

There were many contributors to last night’s win (Clay Buchholz pitching 6 2/3 strong innings, Adrian Gonzalez kicking off a six-run seventh inning with a three-run double), no plays will likely stick out more than David Ortiz‘ two-run homer that gave the Sox a 9-2 lead in the seventh – but not so much for the home run itself, but because of how Ortiz celebrated it.

Ortiz, before heading back to the dugout, greeted two military members seated in the first row of the stands. Apparently, one of the soliders presented Ortiz with a uniform patch earlier. Of course, given what went down a day earlier, there was an added poignancy to the moment. Video of that moment below.
