We're a sports blog (duh), so the dense socio-political implications and nuances of the Ferguson ruling are undeniably above our pay grade. That being said, it's hard to ignore the velocity with which Schilling spews his angry white guy rhetoric into the social media ether.
He's just so wrong about so much it's hard to lay off him.
For starters, Eric Holder is the nation's top law enforcement official -- so that's why he's urging "POLICE" to remain professional and appropriate in the face of heightened tensions amidst massive protests. More importantly, though, why would someone expect the Attorney General to tell the general population "not to escalate," as Professor Schilling puts it? That'd be like the town sheriff going on the radio and telling people to stop committing crimes. If a protestor is going to riot and destroy property and engage in violence, there's absolutely no chance Eric Holder's request for civility would stop them from doing so.
Police, on the other hand, are probably more open to the suggestion. Also, it's their fucking job to protect people and this entire situation revolves around an incident where an officer shot and killed a member of the community, so maybe a lil' reminder post-it note saying "hey don't be a dick" isn't the worst idea in the world.
Thanks for the peek into your myopic worldview, Curt. Next time something horrible happens to a disenfranchised population in this country, please let us know how we can blame/chastise them for it.
