Edwin Encarnacion Was The Best Baseball Player In America This Weekend
The Blue Jays have shown no mercy in the second half of August, and Saturday was no different as they slaughtered the Tigers 15-1 and nabbed their ninth win over their last 11 games. It seems like every game for the Jays features a different player stepping up to the plate (pun intended) to lead the way, and on Saturday it was DH Edwin Encarnacion.
Encarnacion hit three home runs in the game at Rogers Centre in Toronto, including a grand slam in the 7th inning that prompted fans to begin throwing their hats onto the field in celebration of his homer hat trick.
His final stat line for the game was 3-for-5, 3 HR, 4 R and 9 RBI. Encarnacion joins Roy Howell (1977) as the only two players to ever knock in 9 RBI in a game for the Blue Jays.
On top of all that, he's also extended his hit streak to 24 games. According to MLB.com, his home runs on Saturday gave him his sixth three-plus RBI game in his last 17 contests, he's now driven in 23 runs in his last seven games and of his last 78 hits, 41 have gone for extra bases.
I'd say this 100% calls for a rendition 'Encarnacion' from 'Nacho Libre.'
Sidenote: I bet my boyfriend a few weeks ago that the Jays would go to the World Series. The loser pays for a whole night out. I believe it's time for me to start picking out the fanciest restaurant I can find. Suggestions are welcome!
