Gambling: MLB Lock of the Day
San Francisco Giants (Tim Hudson) @ San Diego Padres (Ian Kennedy)
Remember when the Padres won the offseason and were a popular sleeper pick when it came to projecting October? Well, that ship has sailed and one of the most stable franchises in sports comes to town tonight to show them how to handle their business.
He’s 40 years old, but Hudson continues to get outs on a consistent basis and that shouldn’t change against San Diego. In fact, no team in the big leagues has a lower batting average and a lower wOBA this year than the overrated Padres, so counting on them scratching across many runs against the crafty veteran simply isn’t a wise bet. The Giants offense has been better than you think and the middle of their order is capable of feasting on Kennedy this evening. Right handed bats are killing the Padres struggling starter (.301/.366/.596) and Buster Posey just so happens to be right-handed and experiencing a reverse trend sort of season (.329/.401/.514 against RHP compared to .278/.325/.431 against LHP). Brandon Belt and the scrappy Brandon Crawford give this lineup a little bit of depth and enough skill to score a handful of runs tonight. Look for a standard bend-but-don’t-break effort from Hudson, an approach that has beaten the Padres for the better part of a decade with consistency.
