Giants Reliever Yusmeiro Petit Sets MLB Record By Retiring 46 Straight Batters

  • Rick Chandler

San Francisco’s spot starter had previously been best known for being one of only 12 players in MLB history to have lost a no-hitter with two out in the ninth. Now he’s wrestled the consecutive-outs record from Mark Buehrle, who in turn had taken it from another SF Giant, Jim Barr (41).

… and then the pitcher doubled.

Petit has appeared in only 113 games for the Giants. The Giants lead the Rockies 2-1 in the fifth.
