Tragic report that emerged from Japan this afternoon: former Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu, 42, was found dead in his California home yesterday. It's believed Irabu committed suicide. Irabu's 1997 arrival to the New York Yankees was greatly hyped, but he never quite lived up to the attention, posting a 5.15 career major league ERA and occasionally angering owner George Steinbrenner. Additionally, Irabu was arrested twice in the past three years (once for drunk driving in California and once for assaulting a bartender in Japan), but if his death was indeed a suicide, it's still shocking, and extremely sad, just how deep his troubles ran.
