Indians Adam Plutko a Nifty Waiver Add
Recommended Waiver Adds from insideinjuries.com
Koda Glover RP, WAS
Owned in 10% of CBS Leagues
The Washington bullpen is completely influx currently, with Sean Doolittle, Kelvin Herrera and Ryan Madson all on the DL. Madson was the latest to be shut down after giving up a walk off grand slam Sunday night and complaining about recurring back trouble to reporters after the game. Doolittle threw off a mound Tuesday but still has a High Overall Injury Risk, as does Herrera.
With the Nationals falling further and further out of the playoff picture, they might want to hold off on bringing any veterans back until fully healthy, while seeing what they have in Glover, who is one of the few talented young relievers in their system. Glover has flashed potential but struggled with inconsistency and his own shoulder issues. He's healthy now (Low Overall Injury Risk) and his stuff and opportunity make him worth an add.
Drew Steckenrider RP, MIA
Owned in 15% of CBS Leagues
Steckenrider should get save chances for at least a couple of weeks with Kyle Barraclough hitting the DL with a back injury. While the Marlins may not get him too many opportunities, he'll take what's given to him, and his numbers show that he should at least be serviceable in the role. He's posted an 11.9 K/9 over the past two seasons and has been rather steady, if somewhat unspectacular, this season. If he shows well enough right away, he might even have the potential to be moved to a contender as a part of a waiver trade (though likely not to a destination that will grant him a closer role). He's worth an add in deeper leagues if you're looking for saves.
Tyler Glasnow SP, TB
Owned in 57% of CBS Leagues
Glasnow is finally starting to pay off on all of that potential after a change of scenery. He's been sparkling in his 3 starts with the Rays, even if his pitch count and innings are still limited. So far he's posted a 2.25 ERA with a 20/3 K/BB ratio in 12 innings, and the Rays will likely start to stretch him out more the longer things go. He may not get you as many quality starts as you'd like given the innings, but he's making up for it with the strikeouts, which are backed by a sky high swinging strike percentage. With the Rays low on starters due to a myriad of injuries to the rotation, Glasnow will have ample opportunity to continue starting games and develop. He should be owned in most formats at this point.
Adam Plutko SP, CLE
Owned in 4% of CBS Leagues
The Indians' Trevor Bauer hit the DL with a stress fracture in his right fibula, and there's no current timetable for his return. Plutko has been recalled to take his place and will start Saturday against the Orioles. His numbers in the Major Leagues have been so so at best this season, but his dominant numbers in Triple A make him an intriguing option while Bauer is out, especially if you're in a league that will allow you to stream him against Baltimore's putrid lineup Saturday. Should all go well this weekend, Plutko should be in line for some more starts, as Bauer holds a High Overall Injury Risk and won't be rushed back by an Indians team that is well ahead in the AL Central. He's worth a look if you need a starter in deeper formats.
Taylor Ward C/3B, LAA
Owned in 23% of CBS Leagues
Ward has torn it up at the minor league level this season before being called up Tuesday for his Major League debut, slashing .349/.446/.531 with 14 home runs and 18 stolen bases in 102 games between Double-A and Triple-A this season. With the Angels looking to fill the hole at 3rd base left by Zack Cozart, who went down for the season in June, and the in their lineup overall after Mike Trout (wrist) recently hit the DL, they've turned to Ward, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI in his first game in the Big Leagues. He can obviously swing the bat, and he carries the added benefit of being catcher eligible in most formats. With how little depth there is at that position, Ward instantly becomes an option in a lot of formats. This youngster's upside is worth betting on.
