Keith Olbermann Goes All Baseball Nerd On Derek Jeter's Farewell Tour
Jake ODonnell 10:20 am, September 24th, 2014
Keith Olbermann makes his case for why Derek Jeter should be taken off his pedestal and put in a glass display case after his last home game. "Contrary to what you've heard, Derek Jeter is not the greatest person in human history," he says in a predictably condescending tone. Olbermann then goes on to cite Jeter's relatively unimpressive career statistical averages to make the point that everyone is losing sight of what kind of baseball player "The Captain" actually was.
Dude, everyone knows he wasn't THAT great -- people just like Derek Jeter. He was a guy who did it the right way in an era where most everyone took shortcuts.
He also doesn't once mention the reality that Jeter's farewell tour is the only reason fans of baseball's most popular franchise are tuning in to watch baseball this season. Sure, it's over the top -- but the motives of Jeter's farewell tour are clear: Get people to watch baseball in New York. Stop putting this on him, or the fans for not understanding Jeter's place in the pantheon of great American baseball icons.
Keith Olbermann will take any opportunity to tell the youngins they don't know diddly about America's past-time.
