Kenny Albert Doesn’t Know Where The Rays Play
Kenny Albert is in his tenth season of calling games for MLB on FOX. Several of these were home games for the Tampa Bay Rays, played at Tropicana Field. Yet Saturday it appeared Albert was unfamiliar with the location of that stadium.
Addressing Casey Kotchman's first at-bat in the top of the second inning, Albert said that after the first baseman's poor performance with the Mariners last season, he has thrived in 2011 with the Rays -- and that Kotchman is from "nearby St. Pete." The Rays, of course, play in St. Petersburg.
Given the disaster Tim McCarver was on other Fox affiliates at that very moment, Albert's misstatement is forgivable -- if baffling given the obvious differences between Tampa & St. Petersburg, and the distance between them -- but it's a terrific example of the lack of respect the Rays are given by the media despite winning the American League East crown two of the past three seasons.
