“King Griffey” Becomes Joker, Now Feels Like An Ace
A fan clad in a Ken Griffey, Jr. jersey and King's Court crown interfered with a Kyle Seager hit in the top of the 5th inning of the Mariners-Indians clash in Cleveland Wednesday, nearly costing the Mariners a run. Miguel Olivo, who began the play on first base, was forced to return to third base after the interference.
The fan sheepishly dropped the ball back onto the field once he realized what he'd done. It was the second time a fan in a Mariners jersey cost his team by interfering with a ball this month, after the bizarre Ichiro impersonator incident August 3rd.
Fortunately for the Mariners, Willy Mo Peña followed Seager with another double, driving in both Olivo and Seager and (one assumes) leaving the fan feeling less guilty about his mistake.
