This Was The Scene When The Marlins Suspended Ozzie Guillen

Many people had many different reactions to Ozzie Guillen's comments about Fidel Castro that landed him a five-game suspension and resulted in him more or less being publicly thrown to the wolves. Some were outraged he'd say such things. Others merely thought that in a city with a huge Cuban population, saying nice-sounding things about a guy that population essentially loathes uniformly wasn't a good idea. Bigwigs at the Showtime network, though, probably had a slightly different take. When they heard that Guillen said he loves Castro, they probably thought something along the lines of: "Jackpot."
That's because their series, The Franchise - the one that followed the San Francisco Giants around last season - is trailing the Marlins this year. Needless to say, the circus that surrounded Guillen's comments and suspension makes for some juicy material. This Saturday, the network is showing a preview episode at 9 p.m. In advance of this, it put out a trailer earlier today - one that leaves little doubt as to whether the Castro firestorm will play a key role in that preview episode. The fallout begins at the 2:10 mark:
So one of two things happened for that "we have to suspend you" scene: it was either staged after the fact to make it look like they caught the moment the Marlins suspended Guillen, or the camera actually caught the actual moment the Marlins suspended Guillen. And if it's the latter: holy crap, the cameras caught the the exact moment Ozzie Guillen got suspended! We have to admit, we never considered the "Wow, The Franchise has a goldmine on its hands" angle during the whole controversy... but it sure does. And hopefully, that makes for some good television.
