Max Scherzer Plays Catch With 11-Year-Old Mets Fan In Stands, Proving Baseball Is Still The Best
Even though he took the loss the previous day, the Nationals' Max Scherzer still found the time to play catch with a young Mets fan in the Citi Field stands today during pregame. I tend to dismiss those who try and oversell baseball's All-American mystique, but this is extremely cool -- and a perfect example of what sports should be about.
The only way to make this moment better is to set it to a soundtrack written by Randy Newman.

Joe La Rocca took the video of his 11-year-old son, apparently also named Joe, who was wearing a Jacob deGrom jersey at the time. Scherzer had been shagging balls in the outfield when he took the time to play catch with the youngster, who also got to keep the ball.
@Max_Scherzer thank you for having a catch with my son at tonight's game. Lifetime memory. This lifelong mets fan is now a lifetime Max fan!
