Nobody Has Ever Been Happier Catching A Foul Ball Than This Fan
August 27 / Jordan Rabinowitz / SportsGrid
It was a good second day of school for the 2012 Boston Red Sox, Version 2.0. It was a better day for one member of Sox Nation, who left Fenway Pahk with a free souvenir she apparently was waiting for her entire life. Did she catch a foul ball or win an Academy Award? You be the judge.
I've been to tons of baseball games and I've never once caught a foul ball. Never even came close. I'll credit it to years and years of sitting in the red seats at the old Shea Stadium (you could practically reach up and touch the airplanes taking off from LaGuardia in those nosebleeds), but I've never had the luxury of taking home a game-used ball with me. So naturally, I couldn't tell you what it feels like.
But if the moment ever comes, I hope I'm overcome by the same unabashed euphoria this woman experienced. It's such a simple joy, catching a foul ball, and it just warms my heart to see a woman with tears rolling down her face because of it. It's those little things, folks, which if you're a Red Sox fan this season, they're all you're looking for.
