Back in April, Will Ferrell got an opportunity to do something that few people on this planet can even imagine doing: fly in a helicopter. Oh, and he also got the chance to play every position as a Major League Baseball player in just one day. Ten teams, ten games, nine positions, one at-bat, one strikeout, zero errors, and a 0.00 ERA. It was the coolest thing to happen to the sport since Big League Chew — though John Madden certainly didn’t see it that way.
“I hate it,” Madden told a San Francisco radio station. “That’s a lack of respect, you know, a lack of respect for the game and for what players have to do to get where they are.”
“I don’t think [Madden] got all the pieces of information,” Ferrell told Conan O’Brien.
“But I do love that in his mind, he thought I was like ‘Major League Baseball? I wanna play in 10 different games for 10 different teams — I want to do it Thursday. Because I’m a big shot. And make it happen now.'”
The HBO special — which benefits the Cancer For College foundation — airs on September 12 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
