OLD MAN STRENGTH: Proof That Bartolo Colon Is An Actual Athlete
There are a lot of things that I'd have assumed Bartolo Colon would be doing during his offseason. Most of them involve a gluttonous amount of food and the complete absence of intentional exercise, and most definitely not an impressive ropes workout to start off the new year.
I have officially been served.
The 42-year-old New York Mets pitcher showed off his strength by absolutely dominating the battle ropes, which generally weigh anywhere from 25 - 50lbs each and according to the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, swinging them for just 10-minutes can burn up to 112 calories.
Is someone in the MLB actually trying to earn their $7.25 million salary for 2016? That's actually kind of great to see.
Colon is listed at 5'11" and 283 lbs, and has been that large for a majority of his career. Like many others, I tend to forget that just because he looks like an anthropomorphic gourd in a Mets cap doesnt mean that he's no longer athletic. He has the stamina and training of a lifelong professional athlete. Go figure.
Here he is from another angle, teaching those ropes who's boss.
I should probably go hit the gym now. Bye.
