Philly Fans Don’t Love Much, But They Sure Do Love Jimmy Rollins
Philadelphia is not notorious for having the friendliest fans in the world. They are infamous for being home to the fans who booed Santa Claus back in the day, and recently some people who destroyed a friendly, hitchhiking robot for no apparent reason. But the Brotherly Love poured abundantly from their Grinchy, baseball-loving hearts to welcome Jimmy Rollins back home to Citizens Bank Park.
Rollins returned to Philly on Tuesday for the first time after being traded to the Dodgers in the off-season. The beloved three-time All-Star shortstop accumulated countless accolades during his fifteen seasons with the Phillies including four Golden Glove Awards, a Silver Slugger Award and the NL MVP. He was also a member of the 2008 team that won the World Series.
After over spending the lengthy prime of his successful career in Philly, Rollins certainly earned every second of the standing O from his former team.
It's still a little bizarre to see Rollins in Philadelphia wearing gray and blue, but also very good to know that there are things in this world that Philadelphians can love unconditionally...even if the list is short.
Here's a fan's view during Rollins' ovation.
