Royals Tried To Bribe 'Marlins Man' To Move From Seat Behind Home Plate, Failed
Most San Francisco Giants fans know the story of Marlins Man: he's the orange-clad talisman who showed up in the seats behind home plate at the 2012 World Series in both San Francisco and Detroit, becoming a fixture in the Giants' sweep. And now he's back ... showing up in his usual spot, this time at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Royals were not too excited to see him. The orange, you know ...

In fact, according to this report, the Kansas City front office tried to bribe Marlins Man out of his behind-home-plate seat and relocate him to a luxury suite. They even offered him free tickets to other WS games and otger freebies -- but Marlins Man stood his ground. He would not leave his post.
“The owner of the Royals was extremely upset that I was there,” Leavy said.
They offered him a private suite if he would move.
They tried enticing him with free World Series goodies if he would get rid of the orange jersey.
No way, Marlins Man said.
He paid $8,000 for that primo seat and he wasn’t about to give it up. So every time the center field camera was used, which was pretty much every single pitch, the orange-clad Leavy was in the frame for the entire country to see.
Why were the Royals so nervous about this? It looks bad on TV to have a bright orange jacket (he also wears an orange Marlins jersey) right behind home plate -- it messes up their blue-and-white stadium color motif. Sounds a little anal-retentive to me, but hey, it's Kansas City.

Marlins Man's true identity is Laurence Leavy, an attorney from Miami, and he really is a Marlins fan. But he loves baseball so much that he attends games at many ballparks. and not just games involving the Marlins or Giants. (He's also attended, by his count, 27 Super Bowls).
