We’ve known for some time that Larry David & HBO were bringing back Curb Your Enthusiasm for a ninth season, but until today we never had a release date.
Schedule your viewing parties for Sunday, Oct. 1, 10 p.m. (ET).
If you’re not that familiar with the show, trust me, this is great news. Episodes that immediately come to mind are The Christ Nail, in which Larry steals his father-in-law’s treasured replica crucifixion nail to complete a household chore; Car Periscope, where Larry invests in a periscope device for cars to check out the road ahead during traffic jams; and The Ida Funkhouser Roadside Memorial, in which he steals flowers and perfume from a friend’s memorial for his deceased mother because he forgot to buy a gift for his wife.
Then there is possibly my favorite episode, The End, in which Larry dies and goes to heaven, only to piss off so many people there that they send him back. New York Post:
As previously announced, “Curb” vets Susan Essman, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, J.B. Smoove, Cheryl Hines and Jeff Garlin will return for the new season.
In addition, “Gilmore Girls’ ” Lauren Graham has a multi-episode arc, playing someone “who has very colorful language,” she told TVLine in May, adding, “It was fantastic,” and that “There really is no greater joy than actually making Larry David laugh. And he really laughs hard.”
Curb also had many sports-themed episodes, which were always among David’s best work — so let’s hope he goes to that well again. Here below are five shining examples, ranked for your convenience.
