“This Is Embarrassing”: A Professional Baseball Player Fall Asleep During A Game, Gets Ripped By Announcers
Marlins reliever Edward Mujica decided to a catch a nap in the early innings of Saturday's game against the Cubs. This did not sit well with the announcers who were calling the game, who took a "What is Wrong with America" approach to discussing Mujica's brief nap. But, according to the pitcher, it's something he does regularly.
Mujica said napping during the early innings is one of his rituals. He said that when he was with the Padres, he napped from the first inning through the third in a room next to the bullpen.
“In Miami I can’t do that because there’s no place to sleep,” he said.
Mujica said the sun and heat on Saturday made him sleepy, and he nodded off into dreamland.
Mujica, for the record, recorded his team-leading eighth win on Sunday for a team that has given up on selling upper deck tickets this year. So in-game naps might be something the rest of the bullpen should try.
