Todd Frazier Wins Glorified Gym Class Activity, Cincinnati Is Ecstatic
Cincinnati Red Todd Frazier went and totally redeemed himself, winning the 2015 Home Run Derby at home after coming in second place behind Yoenis Céspedes in 2014. The Home Run Derby isn't everyone's cup of tea, and absurd nickname hashtags like #Toddfather don't help the matter. Still...as endings to backyard games played by professional athletes go, this one was better than most.
Frazier faced off with Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson, who set the mark with 14 homers in the final. Frazier cut it close, hitting the tying bomb with :01 left of the allotted four minutes, and finished Pederson off with his first swing in bonus time.
Frazier is just the second player in Home Run Derby history to win it at his home ballpark, and the crowd celebrated loudly as his parents cried in the stands as if he'd just won the World Series.
