Just A Reminder: 39 Years Ago Today, Two Of The Yankees Swapped Wives
On this day in history: Josef Stalin died at age 73 (1950), Martha Stewart was convicted of insider trading (2004), and two Yankees announced at spring training that they had swapped their wives and their pets (1973). And their pets! Here is a picture of the foursome in wife-swappy bliss on a yacht. Looks like fun!
Sportsgrid has covered this territory before when ex-Yankee Mike Kekich, who happened to be one of the swappers, got a little upset last year at news of a planned film based on his decision to trade wives with teammate Fritz Peterson. Not even the idea of being played by Matt Damon or Ben Affleck (Damon is preferable, obv) could keep Kekich from becoming "panic-stricken" at the thought of the old scandal being dredged up again.
I understand wanting to enjoy one's privacy/being sick of nearly four decades of gossip, but Kekich had to know that people would still have burning questions about this. And I may just be speaking for myself here, but I would like these questions answered in the form of a tasteful RomCom. I mean, here are a few questions off the top of my head: who came up with the idea first? Why trade the dogs, too? Is this where we get the term "Yankee swap?" The people want answers, Mike Kekich.
