VIDEO: Watch Pirates Pitcher Francisco Liriano Hit Three-Run Homer
The National League is out to prove that the American League doesn't get to have all the fun when it comes to big time homers. Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano has been Comeback Player of the Year twice, once for both the AL (2010) and the NL (2013), so he's no stranger to putting in hard work.
But he was a stranger to home runs; that is until he hit the first homer of his nearly ten year career in the bottom of the 2nd inning of their game against the Dodgers at PNC Park on Saturday.
It didn't exactly threaten to leave the park, but it was a home run nonetheless! The hit came while Francisco Cervelli and Neil Walker were on base, accumulating three runs for the Pirates to put them up 4-2 over the Dodgers at the time.
He also apparently took half a minute to round the bases, presumably because he figures he'll probably never get to do it again.
He definitely earned those 29.13 seconds. Plus, who doesn't love saying the name "Francisco"... FRAN-CIS-CO.
