Watch Yunel Escobar Basically Kill Himself Trying To Hit This Noah Syndergaard Pitch
Poor Yunel Escobar. The Nationals infielder was just trying to lead off the bottom of the second inning against the Mets like he normally would, and instead ended up leaving the game entirely with a wrist injury after trying -- and failing -- to check his swing on a nasty Noah Syndergaard cutter. He couldn't even finish the at-bat.
Syndergaard had Escobar at a 1-1 count when he hit him with this:
Whoa. Oh my god. Is he okay? Is he... dead?
No, he is not dead. And least not in that Vine. He's dead in this one:
The Nats are taking the position that Escobar was hit on the hand by the pitch. It's a close call, especially in game speed, but that doesn't appear to be the case. This is what we call "swinging and missing" in the industry, folks.
Dan Uggla replaced Escobar mid-at-bat and struck out.
