We Might See Brian Wilson Bully A “5’9” Jewish Fellow” On Showtime’s The Franchise Next Week (UPDATE)
Via Philly sports blog Crossing Broad, comes this interesting story about a possible confrontation involving eccentric San Francisco Giants pitcher Brian Wilson. And if it's true, we might see it on Showtime's Giants docudrama, The Franchise.
A man named "Jordan" claims to have spotted Wilson, who's currently in Philadelphia playing the Phillies, leaving the Ritz Carlton on Penn Square and being greeted by fans.
Before we go any further, we should point out: this is all unconfirmed. Crossing Broad's Kyle Scott qualified his post by saying "every detail Jordan gave me about who he was and his very honorable profession checked out." And we can't really think of a reason a person would make this up. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
Jordan, a Phillies fan who describes himself as a "5’9” Jewish fellow wearing slacks and a tucked in shirt," noticed that the autograph seekers who greeted Wilson were decidedly overweight, and decidedly male. So he did what any self-respecting Philly sports fan would do.
Jordan yelled out, “Hey Wilson, you got enough boyfriends?”
Wilson promptly stopped signing autographs, and approached Jordan. Keep in mind, Wilson was being followed by Showtime's camera crews - they're currently filming The Franchise. So Wilson, with camera crew right there, apparently "stared [Jordan] down" and "cocked his fist behind his head." Jordan flinched, of course, which prompted this response from Wilson.
“You shouldn’t talk this shit if you can’t back it up.”
Showtime then asked Jordan if he'd be willing to sign a release form so the incident could be shown on TV. He did, which means that next Wednesday at 10pm, we might see Brian Wilson punk out a man wearing tucked-in slacks.
UPDATE: A spokesperson for MLB Productions (which is working in conjunction with Showtime on producing the program) says of the alleged incident described above that "none of the producers...are aware of any such situation taking place," so take that for what it's worth. As for us, we're still hoping that this comment is just an attempt to keep the element of surprise in play, and that 1) the Wilson incident happened; 2) we see it for ourselves. We wouldn't get out hopes up too high at this point, though.
