What Is It With Sports Commissioners Getting Compared To The Devil Lately?
Among the many not-nice (like, not-nice to the point where it was getting scary) things the Steelers' James Harrison recently said about NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, few stood out like him calling the commissioner the devil. Well, it stood out until it nearly got matched less than a week later by Dodgers owner Frank McCourt.
Major League Baseball desperately wants McCourt gone, but he's not going anywhere without a long-runnig war of words with MLB commissioner Bud Selig. Via Eric Fisher of SportsBusiness Journal, the latest in that war of words from McCourt:
Another big quote from McCourt re Selig: "it is well within [#Dodgers] business judgment to decline such a 'deal with the devil.'"
Is he using a colloquialism more than directly calling Selig the devil? Maybe. Is the suggestion there, as well as overtbad-mouthing of the commissioner's actions toward the Dodgers? No question. Is Selig going to be happy about this? Not one bit. McCourt just keeps giving us the gift of crazy - whenever he actually does go, we'll sort of miss him. Then again, we're not Dodger fans.
