White Sox Announcer Hawk Harrelson Was So Upset He Couldn’t Even Speak After That Kyle Seager Grand Slam
June 6 / Eric Goldschein / SportsGrid
Hawk Harrelson is the biggest homer in televised sport announcing, and that's fine. The guy is old as hell and -- like a crotchety high school English teacher that should have retired years ago but can't get fired due to tenure -- isn't going anywhere, so we might as well just enjoy (tolerate?) him as a vestige of old school baseball announcing.
All that being said: His reaction, or lack thereof, to yesterday's 14th-inning grand slam by the Mariners against his hometown ChiSox took his homer-ism to a whole new level. For 40 seconds after the blast, Hawk was literally speechless, unable to put into words just how unhappy he was that this game -- this boring, never-ending game -- must now continue.
We get that you're mad, Hawk. But considering you are paid to relay information to the people watching at home, it might behoove you to actually do that.
