Yankees Weird Tweets Apparently Help Brett Gardner Nab All-Star Spot
Brett Gardner is the newest member of the 2015 American League All-Star team, and the Yankees were nothing if not strange in their quest to help Gardner join fellow pinstripers Mark Texeira and Dellin Betances on the All-Star roster. It's standard practice for a team to campaign on social media on behalf of their players, but the Yankees went and made it super weird.
Gardner was a long shot to make the original roster but won the bid as the replacement for Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, who is set to miss eight weeks with a strained groin. The Yankees made their plea to voters with multiple memes, videos and hashtags, but this one was so uncomfortable that it appears it has since been deleted from their account.
What the hell, Yankees! Fact: there is never a good time for unsolicited references to PEDs. It's extra bizarre considering the fact that this could be a subtle jab at scandal-plagued teammate Alex Rodriguez, who is largely considered to be one of the bigger snubs from the All-Star roster.
Speaking of A-Rod...
Ill-fitting bald caps, awkward smiles and A-Rod's elf ears. Were you trying to just creep people into voting?
Then there's this inspired memo from Chris Capuano.
Boredom has never sounded so unenthusiastic. That mess seems flat out counterproductive.
Luckily for Gardner, the Yankees social media team's best efforts to ruin his bid to become an All-Star were unsuccessful. Hopefully he never has to see Joe Girardi in that bald cap ever again.
