Andre Drummond Can’t Hit Free Throws, But He Can Hit This?
When opposing teams play the Detroit Pistons, they form a gameplan around the fact that Andre Drummond is pretty much useless outside the paint. His free throw shooting is atrocious -- he makes only 35 percent from the line this year, which actually seems high if you've ever watched him shoot -- and as such he is the new face of the "Hack-A-[Player]" strategy. In most situations, forcing him to shoot from long distances is an outstanding win for your team.
So of course Drummond blew all that up with a freak three-quarter court buzzer beater last night, just to mess with us.
Does this portend a change in Drummond's fortune from the line and beyond? Nah, but it's still ironic, I think. I get nervous using that word nowadays because everyone gets uptight about it, but I think it's fine to use here. And if it isn't, you get what I mean, so stop whining.
Holy shit, look what he did to the Raptors bench. Absolute shock and awe:
Toronto won by 14, though.
